The Mulch Conundrum (Inaugural BBIT Blog Post)

For years there has been confusion over the term “mulch.”  For the most part, this comes from our customers.

To many people, mulch means a wide variety of things.

Its technical definition, according to dictionary.com is “a covering, as of straw, compost, or plastic sheeting, spread on the ground around plants to prevent excessive evaporation or erosion, enrich the soil, inhibit weed growth, etc.”

It is easy to see where the confusion might arise; even the dictionary has trouble being precise when talking about mulch.

The truth is that mulch means a lot of things.

When Best Buy in Town Landscape Supply talks about a mulch product, we are usually referring to one of two things: bark dust or compost.

Though they serve different functions in your yard or garden, the one similarity between the two is that they are both forms of ground cover.

Thank you very mulch for reading Best Buy in Town Landscape Supply’s first blog post!
